‘Remain’ Trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal’s Tate Falls For Phoebe Dynevor’s Wren

Warner Bros. has released the trailer for Remain, the feature adaptation of M. Night Shyamalan’s best-selling book he cowrote with Nicholas Sparks.

The collaboration between Shyamalan and Sparks stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a reclusive architect, Tate Gordon, who moves to a small coastal town in Cape Cod to finish his latest project. There, he meets an alluring young woman who pulls him out of his shell and into the heart of a deadly mystery that hangs over the town.

Phoebe Dynevor stars as Wren, who asks Tate why they can’t be together in the trailer. They bond over board games and more, but it becomes clear that something is keeping them apart. A curtain flutters between them and she vanishes, but later, Tate hears her crying in the night in the bathroom, and he flips on the light switch to prevent her from bashing her head into the tiled wall. The light illuminates an empty bathroom, and the words “Trust the Unknown” appear towards the end of the clip, which is set to Mitski’s “My Love Mine All Mine.”

Remain will enter theaters across North America February 5, 2027 and internationally Feb. 3, 2027 after originally being slated to arrive Oct. 23, 2026. The novel hit bookstands Oct. 14, 2025. It centers Gyllenhaal’s character, who arrives in Cape Cod following a stint in an upscale psychiatric facility where he was treated for acute depression after losing his beloved sister who could see spirits — a trait that runs in the family. He falls for Wren (Phoebe Dynevor), who has a lot going on beneath the surface, things that could threaten their fragile relationship just as it begins to blossom. Tate realizes that in order to free Wren from an increasingly desperate fate, he will need to unearth the truth about her past before time runs out.

Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty and Jay O. Sanders also star in the film. Shyamalan directs from his own screenplay, story by Shyamalan and Sparks. The film is produced by Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan, Marc Bienstock and Theresa Park, with Sparks executive producing.

Joining Shyamalan behind the camera are director of photography Adolpho Veloso, production designer Sam Lisenco, editor Noëmi Preiswerk, costume designer Caroline Duncan, casting director Douglas Aibel, music supervisor Gabe Hilfer and composer James Newton Howard.
