July 4, 1976 — On a special edition of Meet the Press broadcast live from Philadelphia, governors from across the country and both parties joined the program to mark the nation’s bicentennial: Govs. Michael Dukakis (D-Mass.), Robert Ray (R-Iowa), Wendell Anderson (D-Minn.), Mills Godwin (R-Va.) and Milton Shapp (D-Pa.).
