At Least Five Killed in Amazon Cargo Plane Crash in Miami. Here’s What We Know So Far

Sunday’s incident is the latest high-profile crash involving a cargo aircraft in the U.S. Last November, more than a dozen people were killed after a UPS plane crashed into an industrial area in Louisville, Ky. shortly after departing Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.

Floridian lawmakers expressed their sympathies with the victims of the crash as they thanked emergency services in the Miami area.

Republican Sen. Rick Scott said he and his wife were “heartbroken by this tragic loss of life” and credited “all the emergency personnel for responding so quickly to the scene and putting out the fire.”

Republican Rep. Carlos A. Giménez, a career firefighter and former Miami Fire Chief, shared that he was “extraordinarily proud” of the emergency services’ response and said he would be “praying for all victims and injured.”

Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar said “Miami is with every family affected by this tragedy,” adding that “as we pray for the victims, their families, and those injured, we are also grateful for the Miami-Dade firefighters, police officers, sheriff’s deputies, and first responders who rushed to the scene and continue their work.”
